The White Mountain Communities is a diverse area with various areas of terrain. The Mogollon Rim area ranges from National Forests of pine, oak, and cedar trees, to open meadows. The areas east range from cedar trees, to open flat lands, also known as high desert. The altitude of most of the communities ranges from approximately 6,000 to 7,500 feet above sea level. The yearly climate consists of the normal four seasons of weather. During the summer months daytime temperatures range from the mid 80’s to low 90’s, and evening temps from the 50’s to 60’s. The later part of summer brings in our monsoon season, with light afternoon rains. In winter we receive either rain or some snow. Usually a good winter storm will drop approximately 6-10 inches of snow, which usually melts away within a day or two. Winter temps are usually below freezing at night, but warm up in the 40’s to 50’s during the daytime. We have many retail business such as Home Depot, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. The area growth is booming, with many new subdivisions going in, along with growth in population from such places as Arizona’s larger cities, California, etc. The WMRPC was founded in 1995 and currently has eight members. We fly a northeast course which takes us through Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. Our race course is almost at a 90 degree angle to our members communities, thus making our airline distances more competitive. For a 100 mile race, our shortest flyer is 9 miles short, and our long end flyer is 13.6 miles longer. The overall distance between our short end and long end is 22.6 miles, for this same race. All our races are pretty much the same. We have received many inquiries from flyers around the state and out of state looking to locate here when retirement time arrives. As time goes on we expect to see continued growth!
